A member recently shared with me that in doing Stage 2 of the Roadmap, he came to the realization that he prefers to work as a stand-alone specialist. His current job consists of a large amount of teamwork and joint responsibility for outcomes. "I want to be responsible for my own results", he told me. "I'm tired of fixing the messes of other people and having my performance dragged down by them. I also realized in doing my profile that I'm a loner; it puts huge stress on me to be interacting with people as much as my job demands. No wonder I'm so tired and feel so drained at the end of the day. My relationship with my family is also suffering as I have no energy to interact with them in the evenings".

We discussed options going forward. He's going to share his insights with his manager to explore if his job can be changed to accommodate his needs, or alternatively if there are other positions which will better meet his needs. He's a valued senior specialist so it's highly likely his workplace will re-evaluate his situation and look for a win-win solution. That way he can continue to make a strong contribution in a way that serves him better. And his relationship with his family will be greatly improved.
