A member recently shared how hard she felt the process of developing emotional intelligence (EI) to be. She describes herself as very straightforward, "what you see is what you get", and is not very comfortable with too much people interaction. However she's putting herself through the pain of learning about emotion management because she recently got promoted from a stand-alone technical position to a team leader position, and she's had feedback that she needs to work on her interpersonal skills. Fact is, countless research confirms that EI is an essential component to be effective as a leader, and to effective and resilient in our VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world. So there's no getting away from it! Hopefully she'll soon start to see the benefits and how it makes her life easier.
